Who benefits from having Permanent Makeup?
The question should be "Who doesn't benefit?"  From the young to the
elderly, who desire full even brows, outlined eyes, Rosy shapely line lips
that will never smear, smudge or run!
Permanent makeup is for those who don't have time to put on their
makeup, who are active in daily sports like
swimming, tennis, biking,
aerobics
and those who have physical impairments such as Parkinson's
disease, Multiple sclerosis, strokes, unsteady hand movements,
Alopecia, Vision problems and those who are allergic to conventional
makeup.
I want to have Lasik eye surgery, can I still have permanent
eyeliner?
Permanent makeup compliments lasik eye surgery beautifully.  You must
consult with your Lasik eye Doctor and obtain written permission prior to the
permanent eyeliner procedure (if lasik is to be done prior to permanent
makeup).

How soon can I go back to work after permanent makeup?
You can go back to work any time you wish.  You will have some swelling but it
will just appear that you applied your makeup a little darker than usual.

Will my face appear swollen after the permanent makeup
procedure?
Yes.  The delicate tissues of the face will become red and swollen shortly after
the procedure.  It is recommended that you apply a cool compress to the areas
that have been pigmented and remember to stay out of the sun.

Approximately how long does each permanent makeup
procedure take? (eyebrows,eyeliner & lips)
This depends on the amount of time needed to mix the colors to your liking and
perfecting the shape of your brows, eyeliner and lips - Anywhere from
45minutes to 1 1/2 hour per procedure.  The Permanent  Makeup technician
should allow a minimum of 2 hours per procedure to insure quality time with
their clients.

How many colors are there to choose from?
There are endless possibilities! The permanent makeup technician will create
a neutral or dramatic color depending on your preference. It is best to bring in
your favorite colors to match.

How do you numb the area before the permanent makeup
procedure?
The permanent makeup artist initially applies a mixture of 5% topical lidocaine
to the area/s ten minutes prior to beginning the procedures.   After the area is
partially numbed, the skin is gently abraded with a sterile needle.  Then another
numbing cream is applied which contains a small amount of  epinephrine.  This
cream has a dual effect of numbing the area completely and constricting the
small blood vessels.  This will prevent bleeding to allow the precise placement
of pigment under the top layer of the skin.  If your permanent cosmetic
technician is working in a medical facility lidocaine injections may be used and
must be administered by an ARNP or MD.

What if I am pregnant, can I still have permanent makeup?
Permanent makeup is not recommended during pregnancy or while breast
feeding due to the hormonal changes that can cause poor or undesired color
absorption.

I have occasional Herpes breakouts on my lips, can I still
have permanent makeup applied ?
Yes.  Your Doctor can prescribe a
prophylactic dose of an antiviral medication such as Valtrex prior to the
procedure.

What is the average cost for permanent makeup?
The average cost of permanent makeup is $350 to $850.  This cost varies
greatly on the technicians experience, training and skill.  The cost should not
be the determining factor when interviewing a potential technician.

I am under 18 years old, can I have permanent makeup and if
so what steps do I need to take?
Absolutely.  You will need to have your parent or legal guardian sign a surgical
release form in order to proceed.

Is permanent makeup really permanent?
Yes and No.  Permanent makeup will remain under the dermal layer of the skin
but will lighten considerably over the years becoming faintly recognizable
unless a touch up is performed. Your permanent makeup artist uses the finest
cosmetic colored pigments and they will soften in color over a 3 to 5 year
period. The colors are very blend able and changeable should you wish to
change the look.  With permanent makeup it is suggested that you "freshen"
the color occasionally.  Avoiding sun exposure and applying sun screen of
SPF 15 or greater to the pigmented areas should help prevent fading. You
should avoid anti-aging skin products and chemical peels to the areas treated
due to the premature sloughing of the skin layers that contain the pigment. If
you care for your skin, your permanent makeup should continue to look
beautiful for many years to come.

Is permanent makeup safe?
Yes.  The permanent makeup pigments that are used today have undergone
extensive research.  These cosmetic pigments have been created to be as
safe as possible.  The needles which are used are of the finest gauge, sterile
and disposable.  They are used only once. The permanent makeup machine
has a "closed loop" system with no chance of cross contamination.

Is Permanent Makeup like tattooing?
Because we are putting pigment in the second layer of the skin it is a form of
tattooing; but it is very different.  Your permanent makeup tecnician uses
pigments which are hypoallergenic cosmetic colors that have been specially
created for delicate tissue enhancement.  The machine and needles which are
used are also quite different.  The sterile disposable needles which are used
are of a fine gauge that is designed for delicate facial tissue. These machines
are very sophisticated and made for a soft and detailed artistic procedure.

Is there any risk of infection?
I have not had one case of infection in my 14 years of practice. You can be
assured that all procedures will be performed by a Registered Nurse in a
sterile environment in a medical setting unlike a salon which might contaminate
the skin with acrylic nail dust or hair fragments.

Who applies the permanent cosmetics?
All procedures should be performed by a technician who is certified in
permanent makeup and preferably an Artist with advanced training and years
of experience in this field.

Is it true that I could not have an MRI if I have permanent
cosmetics?
No.  Some of the colored pigments which are used may contain synthetic iron
oxides which have a slight magnetic property.  When undergoing an MRI you
may or may not experience a slight warm sensation over the pigmented areas.

What cosmetic procedures are available?
Eyebrows
- Your permanent makeup artist will create eyebrows for those
with sparse or undefined brows. With fine brush strokes, individual hairs are
"created". Several colors are blended to complement your hair and skin tone
for a natural brow.

Eyeliner - Your permanent makeup artist can create a thick and bold liner or
a soft and subtle liner.  It's all up to you!

Eyelash Enhancement - Color is precisely placed in between each lash
at the base of the lash line. This defines the shape of the eye and creates the
illusion of thick full lashes.

Lip Tinting - The aging process causes the lips to loose definition and color.
Your permanent makeup artist will redefine and shape the lip line. The lip is
then filled in with custom mixed color, the color you probably had in your youth.
This gives the benefit of lip liner and a full healthy lip color in one procedure.
For a deeper shade, darker colors may be used.

Will I need a touch up?
Approx. 5 to 10% of permanent makeup clients require a touch-up.

Why does permanent makeup fade over time?
The exposure to sunlight or UV light will fade permanent makeup.  Your own
body breaks down foreign substances over time when possible.  The use of
glycolics, Retin-A and other wrinkle treatment products will also have adverse
effects on permanent makeup.
Are you able to create beauty marks?
Your permanent makeup artist will create a natural looking beauty mark
anywhere you desire.  You have complete control over the color, shape and
size.  There are numerous permanent makeup colors to choose from!
